Camirel Africa is a leading player in the financial technology industry, innovating ways in which businesses receive and process payments. They offer a robust and secure payment gateway that allows one to easily collect payments from customers. This is done by the generation of payment links that serves both repeat and one-off customer payments. The gateway can further be integrated with e-commerce websites and provides businesses with point-in-time sales reports.
CUSTOMER CHALLENGE
The client faced the following challenges that prompted them to considering the public cloud as a platform for their fintech application:
- Camirel Africa prioritizes a robust security posture and the establishment of trust with its clients. To achieve this, the company emphasized the importance of hosting their application on a PCI DSS compliant cloud solutions provider, aligning with their commitment to customer trust and data security.
- Furthermore, Camirel aimed to elevate its security and compliance standards to bolster the company’s reputation. This strategic move was driven by the recognition that an enhanced security posture not only fosters customer trust but also safeguards against potential fines during audits resulting from non-compliance with industry standards.
- In addition to these objectives, Camirel sought to accelerate innovation within the organization. To achieve this, they strategically incorporated key AWS services into their infrastructure, anticipating that these services would streamline application management and contribute to overall innovation acceleration.
PARTNER SOLUTION
Stratus Cloud assisted Camirel Africa on their journey by migrating them from their former cloud solutions provider to AWS which offers PCI DSS compliant infrastructure.
To facilitate the migration, we made use of Application migration service(CloudEndure Migration), an automated lift-and-shift migration tool that aims to minimize errors resulting from such a critical task. This was done by installing the AWS MGN agent on the client’s server and connecting it to the MGN service on AWS. This allowed for continuous block level replication of the server and its volumes to AWS ensuring no data is lost and errors are minimized.
After the migration was completed, the application currently sits on Amazon Elastic Cloud with Elastic Block Store Volumes for persistent disk storage. These components sit on an isolated virtual private cloud that houses the subnets hosting the application.
The client further consumes services such as Simple email service that enables them to send out bulk emails from their application at a reduced cost. Cloud Watch was also set up to monitor the application running in real time.
We assisted Camirel Ltd by provisioning their infrastructure and troubleshooting any issue they faced on their migration journey. We further assisted with post implementation support to ensure the application was functioning as intended and secured.
RESULTS AND BENEFITS
The client successfully migrated their application to AWS, marking the initiation of their journey toward PCI DSS compliance. Through a meticulous process of tests and a thorough examination of their application implementation architecture, the customer achieved significant results. The migration not only facilitated compliance but also unexpectedly uncovered opportunities to enhance their application delivery.
One notable improvement resulted from the incorporation of additional AWS services. The utilization of Simple Email Service (SES) optimized their communication strategy, leading to a quantifiable enhancement in email delivery efficiency by 30%. Furthermore, the integration of monitoring and logging tools such as Amazon CloudWatch and CloudTrail contributed to a 20% reduction in system downtime, thereby improving overall application reliability.
